What is Biodiesel
Biodiesel is a type of diesel fuel that is made from vegetable oil or animal fat rather than fossil crude oil
Biodiesel in its pure from is often referred to as B100. For Biodiesel blends with diesel, the general tem BX is used, where X refers to the percentage of biodiesel in the blend. So:
- B2 in 2% biodiesel with 98% diesel
- B% is 5% biodiesel and 95% diesel (common in Europe, Thailand and Malaysia)
- B100 is 100% biodiesel with no diesel
Unlike conventional diesel, the bio component is not derived from petroleum (crude oil). Vegetable oil or fat is chemically processed to convert it into a product (an ester) with properties similar to diesel fuel. Biodiesel is term that is commonly used for FAMEs regardless of their origin (rapeseed, soy, used cooking oil, etc.). Dame stands for Fatty Acid Methyl Ester and is produces via the transesterification ( a chemical transportation) of the fatty acids of the vegetable oils or animal fats into their corresponding esters. Biodiesel an FAME are usually used as interchangeable terms.
What impact will biodiesel have on the base tanks
Biodiesel has increase hygroscopic and solvent properties (i.e. they will slightly increase the solubility of water in diesel and will have the potential to mobilize any dirt or gum held in tank and fuel line), which may result in fuel filter blockages upon introduction.
Why is Biodiesel Filtration System important
For vegetable oil and biodiesel, contaminants must be removed before entering an engine. Injectors, pumps and pistons/seals will be ruined if large particles or the wrong fluids enter them. Engines require lubricating fluids to ensure long operational life. ULTRA FINE FILTER (o,5 micron) for cleaning oil, diesel and biodiesel from water and particles. The filters can be used in bio diesel, engine oil, gear oil, hydraulic oil, bio oil, compressor oil and more.
